Dieting – It’s Both What We Eat and How We Eat

By Tom Manfredi Have you got a few pounds to lose? Or maybe you have more than a few pounds to lose. When people think about dieting, they usually think about what theyre eating. In other words, how much of your diet consists of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Thats a good place to start, but it isnt the only thing we should be looking at. Just as important as what we eat, is how we eat. Do you eat just because its that time of day? Or maybe you eat when youre bored. Do you ever have an extra helping just because it tastes really good? How often do you keep eating, even after youre full, just because the food is there? These, and other behavioral issues, can cause as much of a problem for us in our quest to lose those pounds as anything else. So, lets look the challenge a little more closely, and from more angles. There are all kinds of sensible diets that give us good guidelines regarding proper proportions of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Once we find a sensible diet that seems right for us, what are some of the other things we can do to help us succeed? Look closely at the kinds of calories that you are ingesting. Did you know that by having a lite yogurt instead of a low fat yogurt, you can save up to 110 calories? Drinking a can of diet cola instead of a regular cola saves about 150 calories (and most cola drinkers have at least 2 cans a day, equaling 300 calories). Eating a hard boiled egg in place of a Power bar reduces your calories by 173. If you replaced each one of those items in your diet for a week, you would save 4081 calories. That translates to the loss of over one pound per week just with those small changes. That translates to more than 50 pounds in a year. So, look for ways to make lower calorie substitutions for things that you like to eat. But, be careful with those choices, because things like low fat items are not necessarily lower in calories. Most diets strongly suggest that we drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. If you drink a large glass of water about 10 minutes before each meal, it will help to make you feel full sooner. And, if you mix a fiber substitute into the water, it will not only make you feel fuller, it will help your body eliminate excess materials more quickly. Another thing that many of us do that gets us in trouble with our dieting is how often we eat. Dieters often think that if they eat less frequently, it will help them shed the pounds quicker. Guess what? Almost the opposite is true. By eating less frequently, we are teaching our body that it needs to conserve energy by saving the calories we ingest for those times when nothing is being eaten. What will work better is to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day so our body doesnt feel the need to conserve extra calories. In summary: analyze why youre eating; look for healthy, low calorie substitutes; drink water before every meal; and eat more, small meals each day. These suggestions are not the only things you can do to help yourself lose weight. But, they will go a long way to making your weight loss goal more attainable. 2005 Thomas D. Rubber Stamps – Mounted, Unmounted, Clear, Rubber, Oh My…What Kind Of Stamps Should I Buy?

By Kathy Williams Years ago there was only one option for rubber stamps and the crafter. The typical wood mounted rubber stamp. Many of the old rubber stamps also came with handles like business stamps today, while others had simple pegs. Thanks to the growth of this hobby, you can now buy many different types of stamps ranging from mounted, unmounted, clear acrylic, foam, individually, or by the sheet. Just a quick check online will show many companies who sell stamps in all of the above types. You might wonder what the best type of stamp to buy is. While it would be wonderful to be able to give a black and white answer, each type has applications that they perform better than the others. We’d like to take the mystery out of what type of stamp to use, when, and how to use it. When most people think of foam stamps, they think of inexpensive, low-quality stamps found in department stores, and are intended to be used by children. While that may have been true many years ago, new advancements in mold technology have created foam stamps that are actually of very high-quality. They have a significant amount of detail and our fantastic choice, when you’re going to be stamping on fabric or walls, because they are lightweight and inexpensive. They can often be disposed of when you are finished using them. Beyond that, they have a very deep image that is perfect for stamping on uneven surfaces. If you’re looking to stamp fabric, denim, walls, plaster, or tin, foam stamps may be your best choice. Twenty years ago, if you told someone that you had an entire closet filled with rubber stamps, they would’ve thought you were a crazy fanatic. These days, it is not uncommon at all to have stamps filling up cabinets and closets, a fact that has created a huge demand for stamp storage units. Because mounted rubber stamps, with a wood mount, are bulky and take up a lot of space, some crafters like the idea of buying unmounted rubber stamps. Most of the time, you can buy them in a full sheet at a time and save a bundle, or you may want to buy them individually. Unmounted stamps can be backed with anything from magnets to static cling foam, and can be mounted on the medium of choice. Some prefer using traditional rubber stamps that have been trimmed close to the design and then placed on static cling foam that can be mounted easily on acrylic blocks. While cost per stamp is usually the biggest concern, another immediate advantage of unmounted stamps is the inexpensive shipping, because you’re not paying to ship the wood mount. Beware of buying “bargain bags” or “pounds of unmounted stamps” since these are usually of very low quality and the designs are very poor. Acrylic rubber stamps are the newest “stamps on the block”. Either someone loves them or they hate them. Clear stamps have a fanatical following one day and every one dislikes them the next day. When you’ve spent a long amount of time on a scrapbook page and you want to make some final touches with a stamp, the last thing you want to do is ruin all the work you’ve done by having a smudge or putting something in the wrong place. Because clear stamps are placed on a clear acrylic block, you can see that you get good ink coverage of your stamp and precise placement. You can even double stamp by placing stamped images on top of each other. Keep in mind when looking for clear acrylic stamps that not all are created equal. If you’ve ever bought cheap clear stamps, you were probably extremely disappointed. Inexpensive, cheap acrylic stamps usually show themselves by attracting lots of dirt, and they usually tear easily. The best clear acrylic stamps made in the U.S.A. are manufactured by Stewart Superior. The proprietary photopolymer this company uses has the perfect amount of stickiness and is very durable. Sometimes when clear acrylic stamps are placed in the sun, they do discolor, but it does not affect in any way the stamped image. Almost everyone’s favorite, the typical wooded mounted rubber stamp doesn’t need any introduction. After all, these stamps have been around for literally decades, and they were the first stamps that were used years ago. While the selection used to be limited to your local craft and hobby store, the growth of this hobby and the advent of the Internet have made way for hundreds of unique, mounted rubber stamps. Rubber has the crispest and most detailed image of all the stamps. One of the issues with clear stamps is a smudged image. You will not get this with a regular rubber stamp because the rubber soaks up ink in tiny pits that the clear acrylic does not have. So which is best? Foam, unmounted, clear, or mounted, we will have to leave the choice up to you. The truth is, they all have their place for certain projects. If your next project is going to be on fabric, or you want to stamp baby room walls, we’d recommend you find some high-quality, foam stamps. Buy a few of each design and if one gets damaged, you can just quickly go to another one. Are you working on a long scrapbook album that’s taken hours of work? Want to put some final touches with stamps? I strongly encourage you to buy some clear acrylic stamps. There are some fantastic designs out there that you can use. By using clear acrylic stamps, you can be assured that you won’t mess up the hours and hours of work you already put into the project. Are you making cards, scrapbook pages, gift boxes, or patterned paper? Wood mounted rubber stamps or unmounted stamps, mounted your preference, are still your best bet in the end. It’s not so much what kind of stamp you have, but what kind of application you’re going to be using it with. We hope that after reading this information, you now know exactly what you need to get started on your next project. Go ahead, get started stamping today! Weight Loss Success Requires “Life Change”

By Hut Allred Regardless of the billions of dollars spent on diets and exercise programs Americans today seem to be growing fatter by the minute, you might want to think twice about even trying to lose those unwanted pounds unless you are willing to make the life changing commitments that go along with keeping the extra weight from coming back. Motivation is a key ingredient to a successful weight loss program. Staying motivated is something that gives you the desire to succeed when you battle those distractions that come up in your everyday life. Without it, making long-term life changes can be a never ending battle. Knowing that you need to make changes in your life and dealing with the challenges as they come up are two different things. You need to be willing to make changes. Being successful at losing weight depends on your determination to deal with situations and taking action in a positive way when these situations come up in order to be successful. Its hard to make life changes when youre in a really stressful situation such as a divorce or stressed out from work, so if youre thinking about starting a new diet or exercise program, you might want to wait until your life settles down a bit. Dont let life get in the way of committing to a weight-loss program; making a commitment to commit is half the battle of losing weight, making the necessary life changes is the rest. In order to make healthy life changes you need to be aware of what changes you need to make, pinpointing the behaviors that have kept you from achieving your goals. Changing your eating and exercise habits are a must in order to lose weight. It may sound easy, but thats not always the case. Old habits are not always easy to break; you need to replace bad habits with good habits. There are times that you need to be consciously aware so youll know what to do when those hunger pangs hit you, grabbing for fruits or vegetables, instead of donuts or cookies. Learn what triggers your binge eating; try replacing eating with a healthy physical activity. Dont be afraid to ask for help from your family and friends. Having support from the right people can help you get over the humps. Stay away from people that try and sabotage your diet. Its hard enough to stick to a diet without someone trying to shove a Twinkie down your throat. Surround yourself with positive people that care about you and want to help you reach your goals. If youre ready to take the plunge and make a Life Change, but are afraid that this is just another road to failure, try taking baby steps. Think about a thinner, healthier you. Its not always easy, but youve got to start somewhere, losing the weight and then maintaining it can be a lifelong procedure. You need to remember that you are the only one that can take that first initial step to make the life changes that are necessary in order to live a healthier life; its all up to you. Top Web Site Blunders by Coaches, Consultants and Experts

By Marcia Yudkin Of all the web sites belonging to coaches, consultants and experts that I have reviewed, more than three-quarters shared a very serious marketing blunder: Their potential clients wouldn’t understand from their home page precisely what they do. Jargon gets in the way. Many specialists believe that they need jargon to communicate their expertise. Without it, they’d sound incompetent, they think, and those in their target market who are as specialized as they are wouldn’t respect them. My recommendation is not to eliminate jargon, but to include it in the site, with your main emphasis on the business benefits your company provides or the problems your company solves. For instance, I’ve done an informal survey to see if business owners understand the jargonistic tag line, “CRM software for small business.” Nope! Most aren’t even sure what “customer relationship management” really means. But if you write, “Close sales faster and improve customer loyalty through customer relationship management (CRM) software for small business,” you’ll earn greater comprehension, without alienating those who already know the shorthand. Don’t think this applies to you? Sorry, it does. Nearly everyone in business overestimates – usually greatly overestimates – the extent to which customers understand their jargon. The other nearly epidemic blunder at sites belonging to coaches, consultants and experts is not explaining clearly and persuasively why someone should use you rather than the competition. What’s unique about you? How do you differ from your colleagues? If everyone is qualified and experienced, why should I choose you? With sufficient thought and care, you can add text to your web site that gets potential clients thinking, “This is exactly the person who can help!” Related to this is the absence at many sites of two powerful tools for credibly distinguishing yourself from the competition: testimonials and expert articles. Testimonials are quotes from clients you’ve helped, and they should refer to results achieved with your help – not just you being a competent, nice service provider – and be signed with a complete name and business identifier or geographical location. Expert articles engage visitors to your site and show that you know your stuff. Finally, all coaches, consultants and experts need to have a newsletter to capitalize properly on visits to their web site. This is because people shopping for professional services sometimes decide to buy that very day. More often, they come to your site looking for information rather than to hire someone. If they read a couple of your articles, like them and sign up for your newsletter, you’ll have the chance to impress these potential clients repeatedly. Down the line, they’re likely to hire you, sometimes without ever returning to your site. But your site set that process in motion. How to Prevent Holiday Weight Gain

By Chris Chenoweth The Holiday season, for most, is an exciting time of year full of celebrations. Unfortunately, most of the festivities include lots of traditional foods and seasonal treats, most of them rich in fat and calories. It is no wonder we put on weight at this time of year and start the new year on a diet. How can we avoid the weight gain without feeling deprived and miserable? Though it may seem impossible to avoid all those rich and delicious foods, there are ways you can share in the fun without increasing your waistline. The secret is ALL THINGS IN MODERATION. When you use this approach to all things during the holiday season, including what you eat and what activities you participate in, you can avoid the extra weight while still enjoying the festivities in a healthier fashion. Try the following tips to avoid weight gain and extra stress: *DRINK LOTS OF WATER. This will flush the toxins out of your body and help decrease your appetite. *NEVER SKIP MEALS. If you are planning a large meal late in the day, make sure you eat your regular meals during the day. Otherwise, you will be ravenous and eat way too much food. *STICK TO YOUR REGULAR ROUTINE. Try to get enough sleep and regular exercise. This will help keep your stress level under control. Too much stress can cause too much eating. If you do not have time for your usual fitness routine, adjust according to your schedule. Ten minutes of exercise is better than none! *STASH HEALTHY SNACKS IN YOUR DESK. If your office is deluged with treats from co-workers during holiday time who want to share their goodies, practice restraint. If you eat a healthy breakfast and lunch you will not feel so hungry and you will be less likely to over indulge between meals. If you do decide to try some of those tasty treats, remember to do so in moderation. Never stuff yourself. You will only feel miserable and probably disgusted with yourself afterward. *NEVER SAVE UP YOUR CALORIES. Do not ever starve yourself all day trying to save up your calories for an evening event. By the time the party starts, you will be famished and will eat everything in sight! If you are planning to attend a holiday festivity in the evening, make sure you eat your regular meals during the day, including a healthy snack right before the party. You will be less tempted to eat too much. *EAT YOUR VEGGIES. If you are at a party where there are lots of hors doeuvres, check out the healthy food options before you start digging in. Your best options are raw vegetables, fruit, chicken, or whole grain crackers. After you have indulged yourself on the healthy snacks, you can then move on to the more yummy options. You will not be so tempted to overdo and you will not feel deprived. In the same vein, if you are taking food to a holiday party, take something that is healthy. If you are hosting a party, make sure there are plenty of healthy low calorie snacks and water available for your guests. *DO NOT STAY NEAR THE FOOD. Stay away from the kitchen and the buffet table as you may find yourself unconsciously stuffing food into your mouth. Holiday festivities are all about socializing with family and friends so spend your time doing that and you will be far less tempted to eat. *DO NOT WASTE CALORIES ON ALCOHOL. An alcoholic drink can contain up to 250 calories per glass. This can easily add up to a full meals worth of calories in a short time. If you must indulge, try limiting yourself to one drink. If that is not sufficient, try mixing your drinks with water or diet soda. This will cut those calories down considerably. These suggestions should help you keep your weight gain down and reduce your stress level while still enjoying the seasons festivities. Remember, the secret to having a successful experience at holiday time is to keep everything in moderation. Orlistat: the Only Non-controlled Anti-obesity Prescription Drug Approved by the FDA

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julian_Chee] Julian Chee Obesity refers to an excessive amount of body fat. Most health care professionals agree that men with more than 25 percent body fat and women with more than 30 percent body fat are obese. Most available weight-loss medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are appetite-suppressant medications. However, Orlistat is one drug that works in a different way. Orlistat works by reducing the body’s ability to absorb dietary fat by about one third. It does this by blocking the enzyme lipase, which is responsible for breaking down dietary fat. When fat is not broken down, the body cannot absorb it, so fewer calories are taken in. Prescription weight-loss medications should be used only by patients who are at increased medical risk because of their weight. They should not be used for “cosmetic” weight loss. Prescription weight loss drugs are approved only for those with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and above, or 27 and above if they have obesity-related conditions, such as high blood pressure, dyslipidemia (abnormal amounts of fat in the blood), or type 2 diabetes. BMI is a measure of weight in relation to height. A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered healthy. Approved for long-term use Only 2 medications have been approved for long term use by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Orlistat is one of them. Obesity is a chronic disease that affects many people and often requires long-term treatment to promote and sustain weight loss. Non-Controlled Substances When considering long-term weight-loss medication treatment for obesity, one of the concerns is the potential for abuse and dependence. Currently, all prescription medications to treat obesity except orlistat are controlled substances, meaning doctors need to follow certain restrictions when prescribing them. Weight-loss medication for children and teens [http://www.weightloss-diet-clinic.com/diet-pill-orlistat/treatments.asp?page=1] Orlistat is currently approved for use in teens age 12 or above. Other weight-loss medications are not approved for use in children under the age of 16, although studies in children and teens are ongoing. Side Effects Some side effects of orlistat include cramping, intestinal discomfort, passing gas, diarrhea, and leakage of oily stool. These side effects are generally mild and temporary, but may be worsened by eating foods that are high in fat. Also, because orlistat reduces the absorption of some vitamins, patients should take a multivitamin (Vitamin D,E,A and beta-carotene) at least 2 hours before or after taking orlistat. Weight Loss – Why Will Power Doesn’t Work

By Donald Patterson If I just had more will power, I would be able to stick to this diet! How many times have these words been spoken? But the problem is that will power is not going to help an overweight person achieve lasting weight loss. Will power is a lot like adrenaline. It can provide an added boost to a persons system and perhaps help her refrain from ordering the cheesecake for desert at the restaurant this time, but after that brief burst of self control, the will power like the adrenaline is spent. The next dessert will be even harder to pass up. The conscious mind is where analysis takes place and also the place where will power resides. Unfortunately, the part of the mind that makes us do the things we do is the subconscious mind and will power has no impact here. In order to achieve effective weight loss, the subconscious mind needs to be employed and the best way to make that happen is through hypnosis. In hypnosis, the critical faculty of the conscious mind, the part of the mind that passes judgment, is bypassed. When this happens, the subconscious mind will accept suggestions such as those for healthy eating habits without evaluation. These suggestions then take effect and real change takes place. After hypnotic conditioning, the dieter does not have to consciously avoid junk foods. Subconsciously she just feels less inclined to indulge in them and this can lead to sustained weight loss. Hypnosis is not a panacea. Several sessions are usually required to properly condition the client to healthy eating habits. Suggestions for exercise and increasing the intake of water are also usually included in the program. But if a client is motivated to lose weight and get healthy, hypnosis can dramatically increase the odds of success! Donald H. Patterson is a certified hypnotist and Director of Maryland Family Hypnosis in Pasadena, MD. http://marylandfamilyhypnosis.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Donald_Patterson http://EzineArticles.com/?Weight-Loss—Why-Will-Power-Doesnt-Work&id=482054 payday loan law colorado personal loans for bad credit payday cake payday freecell pogo auto cheats

Reasons Not to Fight: It’s Not Necessary

By Jeff Herring Conflict is inevitable Conflict in love relationships is inevitable. It’s also necessary for a relationship because, if you have your own mind, you will sometimes see things differently. If you always see things exactly the same way, then one of you is not necessary. Being able to successfully handle the conflict of seeing things differently speaks to the strength of the relationship. Fighting is optional While conflict is inevitable and even necessary, fighting is a choice. One of the things that causes lots of fighting is beginning to see your partner as the enemy, someone you have to beat. Once you choose to see your spouse as an adversary to conquer, there is really not much good stuff that can follow. What to do instead Here’s brief list of what to do instead of fight: 1. Use the three Cs – Capitulate, Co-exist, Compromise. 2. Give up the right to be right – sometimes in a love relationship you can be right or be happy but not both. 3. Make the conflict or the problem the enemy instead of each other. The next time you are tempted to fight, pull out one of the above options and see what you can do istead. If you really want to take it up a level, use all three at once. Remember, while conflict is inevitable, fighting is optional.
